The materials:

  • 1 x CH Pedals – USB
  • 1 x CH Yoke Pro – USB
  • 1 x 750 mm garden light pole (the cylinder variety) – from now on we'll call it “yoke column”
  • 1 x MDF shelf 300 x 600 x 20mm
  • 4 x L type 30 x 30 mm metal brackets with four 3mm holes each (two on each leg)
  • 12 x 10 mm Phillips metal screws 3mm radius
  • 4 x 30mm Phillips metal screws 5mm radius
  • 8 x 3 x15mm Phillips wood screws
  • 4 x 20x5mm rubber feet (anti skid)
  • Matte Black fast-dry color spray

When I set out to do this project, I've already decided to build a cockpit. Due to the small size of my work room, I had to make quite a few compromises. One of the compromises is the yoke and pedals setup. I think I found a good compromise between a functional and a realistic-looking setup.

The critical components – the yoke column and the disassembled CH Yoke.

First, I shortened the column to 625mm. The “yoke column” that I bought already has a square base with four holes – for fixing the light on concrete or other flat surface (Picture 2). That side will be fixed on the yoke assembly base.

The other end of the yoke column needs to be adapted so that it will easily attach to the CH Yoke base. For that we need to drill eight holes – two for each L-shaped bracket. Picture 3 shows the yoke column top after being sawn, drilled and painted.

We need to disassemble the CH Yoke (voiding the warranty in the process). There are eight screws that need to be taken care of, two of them hidden under two rubber legs. Then drill four holes (where the red arrows point).

Attach the four rubber feet to the MDF shelf (so that it does not skid on the floor when you push/pull the yoke or press the CH Pedals. Attach the CH Pedals to the MDF shelf. Use the wood screws for both the rubber feet and the CH Pedals.

Next, drill holes and attach the yoke column base to the MDF shelf. Use the 30mm screws for that. Picture 5 shows the assembly so far.

Assemble the CH Yoke base to the yoke column top. TIP: you can separate the top of the CH Yoke (the part with the Throttle, Pitch and Mix levers) by unplugging the short cable that connects it to the base. Re-connect the cable and reassemble the CH Yoke top.

Guide the CH Yoke cable on the yoke column's length, to the base, and between the CH Pedals pedals (!). Using any plastic or metal braces fix the cable so that it is not in the way.
